Traffic Management

Traffic Management

Traffic Management needs to be considered where an event disrupts the normal flow of traffic or pedestrian access e.g. parades and marches. If the event is taking place on a road or road reserve administered by the Council, you may require a formal road closure.

For more information please contact Council’s External Services on 4197 4550. For state controlled roads and highways, you will need to contact Main Roads in Bundaberg on 4154 0200 to gain their consent.

Temporar y Roadoad Closures – e.g. Car Rally

Applications for road closures must be received in writing at least four weeks prior to the activity. Please contact External Services on 4197 4550 to obtain an application form. It is a legal requirement that road closures are advertised to the public.

There may be advertising costs associated with this which you will be required to pay. If there are objections, a hearing may need to take place, which could impact on your timelines and place conditions on your event – so be sure to allow for this in your planning.

You will need to provide a traffic management plan, which must conform to the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Other requirements for a road closure may be:

1.  Hiring of barriers and signs
2.  Marshals wearing appropriate clothing such as fluorescent or identifiable vests/t-shirts
3.  Parking restrictions and associated signage
4.  Consultation with businesses and residents affected by the road closure (such as emergency services, transport services and the public)

Parking for Public

Parking restrictions will not be changed to provide free parking for those attending your event. However, some options for public parking are:

1.   Arrange to use local schools, shopping malls, churches, halls, etc
2.   Approach local businesses to ask for approval to use their parking area as an ‘in-kind’ sponsorship
3.   Arrange for park and ride options, and the use of charter buses

Other Footpath and Road Reserve Actvities

An application in writing to Council is required for sausage sizzles, street appeals, street banners, flags and market days. You will need to tell us the date and time of your event and provide written approval from any affected business.

If your event is likely to attract large crowds or if it involves amplified sound or road closure, traffic control or parking restrictions, you will need to consult with nearby businesses and/or residents, as it may affect access to properties for residents, workers and customers.
